In December 2002, Hawthorn received approval to operate programs in holistic nutrition from the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE), school code #48441699. On September 7, 2016, the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education renewed Hawthorn University's (Institution Code: 48441699) approval to operate for 5 years.
Hawthorn graduates of the DSC, MSHN, MHNE, and NC programs are eligible to sit for the board certification exam in holistic nutrition from the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board (HNCB). Graduates of the MSTN program are also qualified for the NANP board certification exam if they complete two additional courses; MHNE 611 and HRB 1. For additional information visit the HNCB website.
A certificate in Nutrition from Hawthorn University credits our graduates with the highest professional standard. Graduates will be able to consult and teach health and self-care, research, and disseminate nutrition information. A certificate from Hawthorn University does not confer the right to diagnose, prescribe, treat symptoms, injury, or disease. Graduates from Hawthorn's Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program will have demonstrated expertise and proven ability in the field of Holistic Nutrition. A degree program that is unaccredited or a degree from an unaccredited institution is not recognized for some employment positions, including, but not limited to, positions with the state of California and other states. Students enrolled at Hawthorn University are not eligible for federal financial aid.
